FOR THE RECORD: a forum on the problematics between historiography and performance
Jef Carnay | Lena Cobangbang | Boyet de Mesa | Judy Sibayan. Moderated by Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez. 3-5pm, 19 January 2013 @ 98B COLLABoratory
How is performance art represented in the narratives of Philippine art and what are the problems underlying this stream of creative practice vis-à-vis the disposition of its practitioners to participate in its historicization? Alternately, how do artists and witnesses (or audience- participants who include the critic-historian) produce themselves through documentation, these moments of historicization--which Rebecca Schneider calls “performance remains?” How is documentation re-constituted as an aspect of a history of performance art practice?
Taking off from Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez's ongoing research on the problematics between historiography and performance, this forum will attempt to tease out and confront narratives of performance art in the Philippines as evoked in a discussion among artists who constitute the field through a spectrum of performative practices.
