Painting the American Flag : Roberto Robles

Opening on August 4, Saturday, 4pm. Running until August 31, 2012. PAINTING the American Flag, an exhibit of works by Roberto M. A. Robles will run from Aug. 4 to 31 at the Galleria Duemila. During the late 1970s to early 1980s, Robles spent time at the old the Thomas Jefferson Library where he was exposed to the New York school of painters, particularly Robert Rauschenberg, that left an imprint in his memory. This exhibit is invoked by these memories, sparked off by coverage of a flurry of exhibits on the artist recently staged in the US. On view are 10 new paintings and a plaster totem sculpture which tackle that Rauschenbergian philosophy of "life and art informing painting."
