The Drawing Room : Manila
Founded by Cesar Villalon Jr., The Drawing Room opened its exhibition space on February 1998. It started as a gallery simply accommodating works on paper – a significant art form which Villalon believed to be a more intimate artistic expression. High quality works by proficient Filipino draughtsmen like Benedicto Cabrera and Elmer Borlongan are part of the initial collection.
What started as an alcove of works on paper, this prominent gallery progressed to embrace more contemporary visual worlds expressed in different media. From vivid portrayals of popular culture to personal takes on cosmopolitan thinking, The Drawing Room is a hub of contemporary Philippine fine art. The Drawing Room has been dedicated to propelling its artists internationally. A regular associate to ART SINGAPORE, the gallery has partaken in other numerous art fairs in Southeast Asia. Other than that, it has accepted invitations and collaborations with galleries in Beijing, Taipei, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, thus paving a wider way towards further expansion.
