mo_space, Taguig
Established in 2007, mo_ was a response to the shifting climate of alternative art spaces in Manila at that time. Non-profit and artist-run, it intended for an extended life span and higher visibility of the young conceptual practices of artists, which was then difficult to position in a market-driven climate. Caught in a time when art gallery spots were obviously decalcifying and artist-run spaces evaporating, mo_ managed to introduce a sustainable structure that endured the unstable circumstances between the two prominent facets of the Philippine art community then.
mo_ addresses the role of artist-as-curator who looks at the exhibition space as a specific site, drawing out problems and directions of Philippine contemporary installation, painting, photography and video. It strongly encourages the reach, depth and range of contemporary expression that traverse broad spectrum of visual dialogue and critical correspondence, nagging instincts, introspective musings and forceful assertions. It has exhibited and continues to provide an open platform for established and emerging artists practicing within the Conceptual framework distinctly and through collaboration.
